Claim 52 Kitchen + Taphouse has built a loyal following in Eugene with its bold beers, playful branding, and lively atmosphere. Now the brewery is expanding to the Oregon Coast, opening a second location on Newport’s historic Bayfront. For owner Jeremiah Marsden, the move represents both a strategic step for the growing brewery and a personal connection to a place he already calls home.
“We have been looking for a second location as we expand our production in Eugene,” Marsden says. “With the loss of Rogue Ales and other pubs in Newport recently, we recognized the opportunity to serve the locals in Newport and the tourist crowd.”
The new location also carries a notable piece of Oregon brewing history. The Bayfront space was originally the first brewery location of Rogue Ales when it opened in 1989.
“The Bayfront location has a special history as the original brewery location of Rogue Ales,” Marsden says. “We are excited to bring the craft beer energy back to this location.”
While Claim 52’s Eugene location is known for its inventive beers and lively taproom, the Newport outpost will offer its own coastal character. The brewery will operate its own kitchen at the Bayfront location, serving pizza and classic pub fare designed to pair with its rotating lineup of beers.
Located along Newport’s bustling waterfront, the space offers views of the working harbor and the energy of the historic Bayfront.
“This location will cater to both the tourist crowd and the locals,” Marsden says. “Visitors will be able to enjoy the sights and sounds of the bustling Bayfront from the patio and dining rooms.”

The brewery also plans to introduce a beer created specifically for the coastal location.
“We are planning a ‘Newport only’ brew in the near future,” Marsden says.
For Marsden, Newport was a natural choice for expansion not only because of its vibrant tourism scene but also because of his own ties to the community.
“More personally, I have a home in Newport and split my time between there and Eugene,” he says.
Claim 52’s branding has also leaned increasingly nautical in recent years, making the coastal location feel like a natural fit. Beers like Fluffy Hazy IPA feature an octopus, Admiral Red highlights a ship captain, and Fluffiest Triple IPA features a pufferfish.
“This nautical theme fits perfectly for the coast locals and tourists,” Marsden says.
The new location may also become a familiar stop for many Eugene residents who already enjoy the brewery. With the coast serving as a favorite getaway for Willamette Valley residents, Marsden hopes visitors will be excited to see a familiar name when they head west.
As Claim 52 continues to grow its production in Eugene, the Newport taphouse represents an opportunity to expand the brewery’s reach while strengthening its brand.
“As we increase our production, we’ll be able to support the second taphouse and grow our brand,” Marsden says.
